Biography: David Berkowitz: Son of Sam

chronicles the killing spree that launched the most extensive manhunt in the history of New York.   Fascinating glimpses into the mind of David Berkowitz and his crimes are provided by interviews with Berkowitz himself, New York reporters who worked the case, a forensic scientist, an NYPD retired homicide detective, a Baptist minister, a former FBI profiler, a prosecutor at the trial and parents of three of the victims.

AVATAR Productions is proud to have supplied production services for this compelling Biography.

Director of Photography Paul Jacobson sets up a shot with the Steadicam.  The use of the Steadicam made it possible to get  “point of view" shots, as if it were through the notorious killers eyes, adding production value rarely seen in documentaries

Working with award winning producer Rebecca Michaelman & Towers Productions,
AVATAR Productions supplied crew, equipment and even the prop cars for the documentary.

Stedicam operator Dan Davis rehearses the moves as the DP positions the now famous 44 Cal. Bulldog revolver for a close up of the gun being fired.  This weapon was loaded with blanks, but there was a requirement for a live round to be fired through a car door window.  Cooperating with the Police, AVATAR productions was able to arrange for this very complicated shot.

We would like to thank the NY Mayors Office of Film, Theater & Television, the NYPD Motion Picture and Television Unit, Officer John Hulse and the Byram NJ Police Dept., and North Jersey Auto Wreckers for their help in this production.
